He
was born in Denver, Colorado to an older
Pioneer Jewish family on his mother's side. He
grew up in Colorado and eventually served in
the United States Army during World War II.
Ivan's outfit was the 11th
armored division, part of the third army. His
tank was hit during the Battle of the Bulge,
he was wounded and taken prisoner. Marched
back into Germany, he was used as a slave
laborer - Ivan weighed approx 205 lbs when he
was captured and 96 lbs when he was finally
liberated. It was recently discovered [1999]
the American Sherman tank that sits in the
town square in Bastogne belonged to
Goldstein's crew - the tank now serves as a
memorial to the Battle of the Bulge.
After liberation Goldstein spent 9 months in
the Army Hospitals. After discharge he
attended and graduated from the University of
Denver with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
specializing in Graphic Art.
Goldstein married June Alexander, his college
sweetheart in 1948. They have four children
and 21 grandchildren and one great child.
Ivan Goldstein founded an advertising display
and screen printing company he ran for more
than 30 years. Ivan presently lives in Israel. |
