How much should you spend?
Spend
as much as you can afford. I once had a man come into the
store and tell me he wanted to buy Tefillin and didn't want to
spend more than $50.
I asked him would he buy a car for $50 and drive it from Denver
to New York?
he replied, "No".
I asked, "Why"
He replied, "Because the car isn't reliable..."
Now, if $50 is all you can afford and you have to make the trip
then probably the $50 is worth it... however, if car isn't
reliable and you wouldn't drive it on a trip from Denver to New
York, then how much more should you take care of your life in
this world and your eternal soul?
Price might be one factor on what you buy however, also consider
if the Tefillin fits you. Is it comfortable to wear?
Consider buying the best straps you can afford.
