The British Library’s collection of Hebraica and Hebrew
manuscripts numbers several thousand volumes, including a rich
vein of illuminated documents. The thirty glorious images in this
book of postcards are among the best in the Library’s collection.
Included are images from the Duke of Sussex German Pentateuch (c.
1300); the Golden Haggadah (c. 1320), one of the grandest of all
Hebrew manuscripts; the Barcelona Haggadah (c. 1350); the Lisbon
Mishneh Torah 1471–1472); the uniquely illuminated Lisbon Bible
(1482); the Leipnik Haggadah (1740); and several other illustrated
