Wake up to
the New Year
Stories & Insights
Yehuda Cahn
A
popular children's story tells of
how several blind men once set about trying to describe an
elephant, One man took hold of the trunk and declared that an
elephant must be like a snake. Another touched the animal's
ears and decided that elephants must resemble bats. A
third put his hand around a leg and concluded that elephants are
similar to tree trunks.
As
we approach Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we frequently find
ourselves in the same predicament as the blind men in the story.
We want to take advantage of these days to gain spiritual
achievement, but we don't know exactly how to go about it because
spiritual concepts are difficult for us to grasp.
Often
a clever parable of wise insight opens our eyes, giving us a clear
understanding of what this season is all about and how we can
improve.
"Touching
stories and parables have always been a gateway to the Jewish
hear. Yehuda Chan has masterful unleashed the power of this
concept in Wake up to the New Year.
