elease from Czarist
imprisonment in Petersburg, in 1798 of Rabbi Schneur
Zalman of Liozna (later of Liadi), known as the Alter
Rebbe, founder of Chabad-Lubavitch, author of Tanya,
Shulchan Aruch HaRav and other profound works. After
disproving the false charges of his opponents, he so
impressed the ministers and senators who judged him (and
even the Czar himself, who personally visited him) with
his wisdom and saintliness, that the entire Chassidic
movement was vindicated and could henceforth spread its
teachings freely. Celebrated throughout the world as the
'New Year of Chassidus'. |

Before Kindling recite
the blessings, and after kindling recite 'Hanairos
hallolu...' All members of the family should be present

young girls light their own Shabbat candles. Students
and singles who live in a dormitory or in their own
apartments, should kindle Menorahs in their own rooms.
Chanukah lights are
kindled in the front window or by a doorway.
On Friday Afternoon the
Chanukah lights (which will burn until a half-hour after
nightfall) are kindled before the Shabbat

lit. From the time the Shabbat candles are lit
until Shabbat ends and the Havdalah (separation between
Shabbat and weekday) paryer is recited the Chanukah
